Disciples of Jesus Christ Choir releases Soul-Stirring Song “Genda Ubabwire,” Winning Praise from Rev. Dr. Rutayisire

The Disciples of Jesus Christ Choir has released the music video for their heartfelt song “Genda Ubabwire”, which has quickly captured the attention of many, including Rev. Dr. Antoine Rutayisire, who expressed deep admiration for the song and encouraged everyone to watch and listen.

Based at EAR Remera, the choir has a rich history in gospel music, dedicating their art to spreading the message of Jesus Christ and transforming lives through spiritually profound songs.

According to Nyirikindi Jean Baptiste, one of the choir’s founders and its conductor, the Disciples of Jesus Christ Choir began in 2008 as a small student choir, performing only during school breaks, driven by a passion to share the good news of Jesus Christ. The name “Disciples of Jesus” reflects their mission to follow Christ, glorify Him, and serve others.

From a humble beginning with just seven members, the choir has grown to 60 talented singers over 17 years, demonstrating remarkable growth in their ministry through music. Their primary goal is to spread the gospel both locally and globally, producing Christ-centered songs that are not only melodious but aim to touch hearts and bring people closer to God.

A Growing Ministry Through Music

Initially focusing on schools and universities, the choir’s ministry has expanded significantly. They have released two albums so far:

  1. “Genda Ubabwire” : Featuring six songs, including the title track released as a music video. All tracks are available on YouTube and streaming platforms; simply search “Disciples of Jesus Choir.”

  2. “Shimwa Mana” : Also with six songs, currently in production, with plans for an upcoming release.

Nyirikindi Jean Baptiste shared that the choir aims to continue producing music that delivers powerful messages of salvation, reaching as many people as possible to expand God’s kingdom. In 2026, they plan to broaden their outreach by performing in more regions and releasing live recordings from last year’s “Shimwa Mana Live Concert”, celebrating 17 years of ministry.

“Genda Ubabwire”  A Call to Action

The song reminds believers of their responsibility to share the gospel and live according to Jesus’ teachings. Its message aligns with scriptures such as:

  • Matthew 28:19-20: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

  • Romans 10:13-14: “For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?”

The choir emphasizes that every Christian has a duty to actively share the message of salvation—not just in words, but through everyday actions.

Praise from Rev. Dr. Rutayisire

Rev. Canon Dr. Antoine Rutayisire, retired bishop of EAR Remera, publicly expressed his love for the song, describing it as beautiful and encouraging all to listen. Nyirikindi Jean Baptiste said the choir was deeply touched by the bishop’s appreciation, noting that he embodies the same mission as the song; teaching messages that lead people away from sin.

“The message in our song is what he loves,” Nyirikindi explained. “If it weren’t for the gospel truth in the song, he wouldn’t have endorsed it or encouraged people to watch it.”

The choir celebrates this support, feeling united in their mission to spread the gospel through music, not only performing but also living according to God’s Word, as encouraged by Rev. Canon Dr. Rutayisire.
